Bringing Learning to Every Pocket

World Mathematical Society created and shared basic maths revision videos, notes, and quizzes via WhatsApp, and using a bit of YouTube, focusing on accessibility for students with limited data or devices.

This initiative—lovingly nicknamed the “Digital Maths Resources Bus”—was born from a simple but urgent question: How do we reach learners with no laptops, no stable Wi-Fi, and minimal data? Our answer: go where they already are—on WhatsApp. With this approach, W.M.S. has been able to deliver maths content straight to the palm of students’ hands, no matter where they live or what they own.

World Mathematical Society created and shared basic maths revision videos, notes, and quizzes via WhatsApp, and using a bit of YouTube, focusing on accessibility for students with limited data or devices.

Our resources are designed to be light in size, clear in message, and practical in application. Each week, we send out revision notes, short explainer videos, voice notes, and quizzes, all tailored to match the ZIMSEC and Cambridge syllabi. Using WhatsApp means students don’t have to log in to a separate platform or download heavy files—they receive and engage with content in real time.

For learners with slightly better access, we supplement our materials with YouTube links—carefully curated videos that reinforce what has already been shared via WhatsApp. The beauty of this system is its flexibility. Students can learn at their own pace, repeat materials, or engage with tutors through voice or text for clarification.

The feedback has been touching. Some learners say they feel seen for the first time, because someone took the effort to design content that works with their limited resources. One parent even shared how her daughter now tutors neighbours using the same content she receives weekly.

Innovation in the Classroom

We believe this is just the beginning. With support from our members and partners, we plan to expand this digital delivery model into a full mobile learning ecosystem. This includes dedicated WhatsApp groups per grade, real-time tutor responses, and more interactive challenges.

At W.M.S., accessibility isn’t an afterthought—it’s our starting point. In a country where data is expensive and devices are often shared among siblings, our mission is to make learning possible, not perfect. The Digital Maths Resources Bus proves that innovation doesn’t always require massive infrastructure—it requires careful design, empathy, and a willingness to meet learners where they are.

As we look ahead, we’re committed to riding further with this digital bus, fuelled by passion, community support, and the unstoppable drive to make maths make sense—for everyone, everywhere.
